about two weeks ago I performed a scandisk/defragmenation for routine pc maintance.  I did this in safe mode as I've done for a very long time.  Both functions were completed successfully.  But as I restarted it I came to find that I only had 16 colors, appeared as as if still in safe mode without being in safe mode.  I also lost my cursor but later recovered it through add/hardware function in control panel.  While in display properties, couldn't find more options than the bare 16 colors for display.  It appears I lost color options.  I don't know if this may have something to do with my problem but about 6-7 months ago I deleted a SoundMax program that had something to do with the pc's audio performance. Previous pc owner installed this program so I don't have access to it.  Also I'm using operating system WIN ME.  SO after analyzing what I've stated, would you recommend I replace a component in the pc or would you suggest a web site I could visit to download something that woulod enable me to have more color options?   One last thing.  I've also tried to update the drive for the SVG, something graphics-related located within the device manager in the System portion of the Control Panel.  I've rebooted pc and tried to locate more colors in display but no dice.  Can you help?

Hi kblundy,

I would say it's very unlikely that anything needs to be replaced on your computer.  I would recommend updating the driver although it sounds like you may have already tried that somewhat.  Can you please provide what operating system your running (ie Windows XP, Vista, etc) and possibly what model computer it is your having this problem on.  We should be able to troubleshoot it more from there.  Thanks!
